Is the soundtrack good for this series? I have heard a lot of different opinions.

The soundtracks are mostly done by Yasunori Mitsuda. If you liked the soundtrack for, say, Xenogears, then you might like those in the Chrono series as well. Personally, I really love what he did in Trigger. The soundtrack has a lot of variety and a lot of powerful, stand-out tunes (ten, not-too-impressive songs were done by Nobou Uemetsu, of FF fame) which fits the game perfectly.
In Radical Dreamers, the sequal to Trigger, Mitsuda came at us w/a very ambient soundtrack that really set a unique, moody feel for the text-based game. It's really brilliant and a great departure from his other works, although it was fairly early on in his career (Trigger being his first major work).
Chrono Cross' soundtrack has been long hailed by RPGers as one of the best soundtracks. It's mostly tropical sound really reflects the game's atmosphere well and there are also two or three really well-done pieces.
This is not to mention the great work done by fans over at places like OCR & VGMix.

I'd say Chrono Cross has the best original soundtrack of any video game ever, and the only one I listen to when I'm not playing the game and just feel like listening to some good music.
Chrono Trigger has some nice tunes, but as good as they are, they were still composed for the Super Nintendo, so I don't know if I would pay money for the CD or not. But hey that's just me.
I jusr recommend playing the games and deciding for yourself.

Yea but I can't find it anywhere!
Hah oh well, I can find the soundtrack somewhere and check it out anyways. My friend showed me Frog's Theme, and that song just makes me want to stand up and have my own adventure!

Most definitely, Yasunori Mitsuda's early work on Chrono Trigger is still a masterpiece of gaming music... yes, still today with all the technology advances since then!
