MGS2 just was completely better than Splinter Cell. For one, the XBox controllers all suck, and the buttons are so confusing that I couldnt even figure out how to kill someone within 5 minutes. MGS2 has smoothly flowing graphics, a confusing and complex storyline, and amazing characters/weapons. Splinter Cell is a basic 'shoot-em-up' game.

both sucked

splinter cell was an overhyped pieces of shit , the gameplay was boring after couple of levels ,all the levels were fucking short .the characters sucked the story sucked even more , the voices acting sucked , the dialog was like from a b-movie.

conclusion

Tom clancy s games suck and are full of clichés

mgs 2 sol lack of improvement in gameplay , a bit ridicules and full of plot holes story line ,changing of the main character which would have been okay if the character wasn't wussy looking ,doesen't have that dark ,mysteries , paranoid feel (except in the tanker chapter )like all other metal gears have.

conclusion

This what happens when a game maker gets successful all though it's not all kojima's fault half the blame should go to konami for pushing kojima to release a new mgs as fast a possible .

This thread has been done before. But anyway I prefer Splinter Cell WAY over MGS2. I haven't played any of the other MG's so I can't really compare it to those, but considering I love Splinter Cell, I'd probably prefer it anyway.

The gameplay is awesome, I love how you can actually change the camera angles and such. The lighting was superb, and its necessary for this kind of game. Plus, its very realistic, with good weapons and gadgets. I loved the story as well. It made me wish there was a book version of it out.

For one, I find it amusing that the Xbox controllers hurt your head, and you can't figure them out. But thats not the point. Its also out on Ps2, Gamecube, and the PC, so controller isn't an issue. lol, with all of this controller controversy, I want to do a 'controller switch' ad making fun of the mac ones. "Using the Xbox controller was just so confusing, how come its so big? I can't lift it"

And to say that Splinter Cell is a basic shoot em up game makes me believe you haven't played it more than 5 minutes. Anyone who's actually played it would know that they toned down the shooting aspect of it so it WOULDNT be a shoot em up game. Hell, there are levels where you aren't allowed to kill anyone, like the CIA level or the Chinese Embassy. SO, if you still think its a shoot em up game, I really don't know what to tell you, your going to have to play it for longer to get an actual opinion on it.

Another thing I heard somewhere was that people were complaining that the weapons were too dull. Thats because its REALISTIC! Real people don't carry around 7 guns at a time, one of them being a rocket launcher.

Right. The thing about Splinter Cell is, his weapons you can actually see on him, like the pistol will be in the holdster and the rifle will be on his back. If he were able to carry 7 huge weapons, then that would REALLY make it a shooter and destroy the whole point of having a stealth game. Plus, he couldn't put it anywhere, unless he just keeps having places on his back, but then he'd be really heavy and a lot more visible and.. well you see my point.

yes i do see your point But you miss the fact that Snake has a bag in his pocket that leads to a alternate dimesion where he keeps his weapons.
